A long-running community event in Combermere won’t be happening this year.
For the first time in years, the CO Blitz won’t happen during the August long weekend. Chair of the Combermere Recreation Committee Elaine Schweig says that while the event has been one that’s been looked forward to in the past, there just isn’t enough money for it to run this year.
Schweig says a number of things factor into the financial issues with the event including the cost of security, entertainment and upgrades to allow the use of the outdoor rink for bands. She also says that the long weekend poses challenges in finding volunteers for the event as many of them aren’t available and go away for the weekend.
Schweig says the Combermere Recreation Committee plans to bring the CO Blitz back in 2019, but she doesn’t think it’ll be during the August long weekend.
