Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski has another line to add to his job title.

That’s because he was named as the new Minister of Transportation for the province on Friday afternoon. Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced his cabinet Friday, which included the local MPP.

Yakabuski has been in office since 2003 and has been an advocate for the Highway 417 expansion into Renfrew County. In his visit to Renfrew County during the election campaign, Doug Ford and Yakabuski both committed to twinning Highway 17 from McNab Braeside to the Renfrew.

Yakabuski says the expansion of Highway 417 is something that is beneficial for residents who may commute to Ottawa for work every day. He says the impact it has made since expanding to Arnprior is seen every day.

This is Yakabuski’s first time as an MPP without being a member of an opposition party.
