A total fire ban is in effect in Madawaska Valley.
That’s according to Fire Chief Corwin Quade who made the announcement Thursday morning. On Wednesday, Quade had said that no fire permits would be issued until further notice because of the risk of forest fires.
Quade says that a total ban means you can’t have any fires, big or small, and not following these rules could result in fines. Quade says the danger of fires getting out of hand is always a concern when the ground is as dry as it is now.
Other local municipalities also have a full ban in effect including:
-Brudenell, Lyndoch and Raglan,
-Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards,
-Petawawa,
-Bonnechere Valley,
-Horton,
-Whitewater Region,
-Laurentian Valley,
-North Algona Wilberforce (small campfires only permitted).
Quade says that while it is expected to rain on Thursday, it likely won’t help with the burn status as it’ll be a dry, hot weekend ahead.
