Almost 20 days after most municipalities in Renfrew County issued a total fire ban, the province has also stepped in.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry marked Renfrew County as a fire restricted zone. According to MNRF Fire Prevention Officer Shayne McCool, this means fire bans can be enforced by more than just a local fire department.
McCool says that an MNRF restriction will also take priority if a municipality doesn’t have a burn ban in effect.
During a total burn ban, all open fire burning is restricted. This also means that wood and charcoal barbeques aren’t allowed. Only barbeques powered by gas or propane with a heat control are allowed during a burn ban.
Madawaska Valley has had a full ban since July 6th.
