A weekend fire at a Palmer Rapids-area farm caused about $500,000 in damages and led to death of five pigs. However, no people were injured.
The Madawaska Valley Fire Department was called to the blaze on Upper Rosenthal Road just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.
Fire Chief Corwin Quade says by the time firefighters arrived three barns were fully engulfed in flames. It took more than five hours for them to douse the blaze.
Quade added the fire is considered accidental. Its cause has not been determined.
