OPP Posts Bulletin Advocating Bear Safety

The OPP is now advocating for safety regarding bears after officers were called to a campsite.

Last week, the call came in from Pog Lake in Algonquin Park after a tent had been damaged by a bear.

Both the MNRF and the OPP say proper storage of food and garbage are the best ways to reduce your risk of coming across a bear.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Bear-wise campaign has sections dedicated to informing the public in areas like hiking, camping and with your community.

Police say if you do encounter a bear and think it’s an emergency to call them immediately.
