Instructors at Ontario’s 24 colleges could be on strike by Thursday, unless a new contract agreement is reached.
Algonquin College shared an “Important Update For Learners” on January 5th outlining details about the possible strike.
Moose FM has reached out to Loyalist College Bancroft but has not yet received confirmation as to whether or not the potential strike would affect the Bancroft campus.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union issued the required five-day notice late Friday, saying their members weren’t being offered job security.
It adds the current offer from the College Employer Council will leave its members worse off than their now-expired contract.
The colleges argue they’re in a tough financial situation, made worse by the federal government’s new limits on foreign student admissions, which make up a third of their revenue.
Mediation talks are due today and tomorrow.
