Federal election live: Gallant wins Algonquin-Renfrew Pembroke

The numbers are enough for Cheryl Gallant as the Conservative was declared the winner of the Algonquin-Renfrew Pembroke riding. Gallant has a lead of 7,387 votes with 56.6 per cent of the vote, with 180 of 262 polls reporting.

Liberal Cindi Mills has 14,206 votes as of now, or 36.6 per cent of the vote.

Gallant told MyBarrysBayNow she is ready to get to work and looking forward to representing her riding again.

Gallant was previously a member of the Canadian Alliance when first elected in 2000 and is the longest serving woman in the federal caucus.

Also on the ballot tonight in the riding: Eileen Jones-Whyte (NDP), Danilo Velasquez (NDP), Randy Briand (United), Stefan Klietsch (Independent) and Seth Malina (Independent).

Gallant won the 2021 federal election with 49.5 per cent of the vote, with Jodie Primeau of the NDP in second place with 12,263 votes and Mills in third with 11,335.

Cheryl Gallant continues to extend her lead in Algonquin-Renfrew Pembroke with 57.5 per cent and a lead of 5,953 votes over Liberal Cindi Mills, with 115/262 polls reporting. Eileen Jones-Whyte is in third spot

Cheryl Gallant has extended her lead over her Liberal rival, Cindi Mills. With 49/262 polls reporting, Gallant has 8,312 votes while Mills has 5,615, a lead of 2,697 votes. Many Ontario polls are showing smaller numbers of polls counted thus fa, it could be a long night for those keeping track of individual ridings.

Conservative Cheryl Gallant has a nearly 400 vote lead in the early going over Liberal candidate Cindi Mills, with five of 262 polls reporting.

Polls are now closed in Ontario and other provinces. A dump of data is expected to start rolling as the polls get counted. The Liberals have won or are leading in 25 ridings while the Conservatives have won or are leading in 12 in the Maritimes. The Bloc are leading in two ridings. The NDP have dropped significant numbers in eastern Canada.
