The Madawaska Valley Fire Department will be picking up its home safety inspections beginning Monday.
Fire Chief Corwin Quade says there was a high failure rate of homes in the previous inspections at the beginning of this year.
He says residents will get one warning and then it means a fine.
Quade says he’s found residents are surprised to learn they must have a working C-O detector and smoke alarm by law.

He says both are available at cost from the township and fire hall.
The inspections are completely voluntary and no fines have been handed out yet.
