Madawaska Valley’s Fire Chief Corwin Quade says the tall riverbanks at Pine Cliff Resort in Combermere have been stabilized.
Heavy erosion had led to a number of small landslides in the area which warranted an evacuation order by the township.
Quade says thanks to the work of contractors called in, working for the better part of a week, the erosion of the banks has been stalled.
A number of cottages, trailers and homes on, and near the resort were at risk of being swept into the Madawaska River.
There’s still uncertainty regarding how much higher water levels will get with this weekend’s forecasted rain, but it may provide some relief for residents and landowners in the area.
