Annual Polish and Kashub Day Festival Between Milestones

Despite a change in venue the 19th annual Kashub Day Festival went off without a hitch in the Madawaska Valley.

The Wilno Heritage Society and its volunteers were front and centre for the event at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre on Saturday.

Local culture and heritage are the centrepieces of the nearly two-decade old staple event.

One of the event’s organizers Dave Shulist says keeping an event like this running for nearly two decades is thanks to community support, local businesses, the township and volunteers.

The festival which celebrates Polish and Kashubian heritage and culture is in the middle of two milestones.

The event featured special flag presentations, multiple community groups and organizations on site and a presentation from a member of the Polish consulate to Canada.

This year’s event was part of Canada 150 celebrations and next year’s will be its 20th year of operation.
