Botched 911 Call a Serious Concern for Fire Chief

Some red flags are being raised by Madawaska Valley’s fire chief over a miscommunication regarding a 911 call.

Corwin Quade says a resident in the Madawaska Valley called 911 to report a fire and was told by a Belleville dispatcher they didn’t know where the township or Renfrew County was located.

He says the resident was hung up on by the dispatcher after being put on hold.

When the resident called back, a Belleville dispatcher told them the same thing before a supervisor transferred the call to Renfrew County.

Quade says there was a serious break down in the area’s 911 calls and will be looking into it alongside the County of Renfrew to investigate further.

Due to the seriousness of the issue, it’s likely council will be asking for a response in writing from the county.

Quade says the caller was eventually responded to and no one was hurt as a result of the delay.
