In the first six months of 2017, opioid overdoses in Renfrew County have matched last year’s total.
The CBC reports there have been 95 calls about overdoses to the Renfrew County Paramedic Services so far this year.
Paramedic Services Chief Mike Nolan says most cases involve fentanyl, and span across all age groups. Nolan says the county has seen opioid overdoses go up 13 per cent annually for the past few years.
This comes as the province and the OPP have increased the availability of Naloxone, a drug which can temporarily curb the effects of an overdose, to fight Canada’s opioid crisis.
