Renfrew County paramedics have reached a deal with the Ottawa Paramedic Services that will limit their usage in Ottawa.
The new deal will see paramedics from Renfrew County only respond to calls in Ottawa if a patient is having a heart attack or unconscious.
In 2016, Renfrew County paramedics responded to 370 calls in Ottawa. Under the new deal, that number is expected to drop to 15 a year.
This comes after rural paramedics said that responding to calls in Ottawa was both costly and dangerous, as it could leave Renfrew County residents without nearby paramedics in case of emergency.
