Madawaska Valley’s Fire Chief is speaking out after a house fire in Barry’s Bay.
Chief Corwin Quade says that the fire department was called to a home on Bay Street at 11:30am Wednesday and was there within five minutes. The fire was originally spotted by volunteer firefighter David Afelskie, who had pulled over and banged on the door of the house telling the residents to get out.
Quade says that without Afelskie’s quick thinking, things could have been much worse as smoke alarms never went off at the house.
Quade also says it took 22 firefighters and five trucks over six hours to extinguish the fire.
