Residents have the green light to go swimming at local beaches.

That’s according to the Renfrew County and District Health Unit, which does weekly testing of beaches for things like e-coli, blue-green algae and other bacteria. Across the county, 29 beaches are tested that includes both local lakes and rivers.

All 29 beaches have been deemed safe to swim in by the health unit, including Mayflower Beach, Wadsworth Beach and the Barry’s Bay Beach in Madawaska Valley.

The health unit says that if test results ever show too much E. coli in the water, a sign will be put up telling you not to swim at that beach. Exposure to E. coli could result in skin rashes or infections in your eyes, ears, nose or throat.
