With 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and multiple locations around Barry’s Bay affected, the Renfrew County District Health Unit is urging residents in the region to get vaccinated.
The Unit says that because of the three new cases, 20 high-risk contacts have been identified and suspect there could be four workplace outbreaks. They remind residents that the best way to be protected from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated.
A few locations in Barry’s Bay have confirmed that members of their staff have tested positive for the coronavirus. Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College confirmed one of their staff tested positive after coming in contact with two college students who later were confirmed to have COVID-19. The College is working with the Health Unit to contain the outbreak and will release details as the situation develops. No in-person classes are currently being held by the College.
The Ash Grove Inn confirmed on their Facebook page that one of their staff members tested positive. However, they say the risk to customers is low. All staff members in close contact with the case have been assessed by the Health Unit and those who have not been completely vaccinated are being told to self-isolate. The Inn has reduced hours over the weekend as a result and is only offering take-out.
Madawaska Coffee Company has shut down their location in Barry’s Bay due to a possible exposure to COVID-19 on the advice of the Health Unit. However, they did not say if any of their staff contracted COVID-19. The company also says the risk to its patrons is low.
