Madawaska Valley Township is receiving an Inclusive Community Grant to install brand new, fully accessible picnic tables.
The grant was awarded by the province and will allow Madawaska valley to purchase new accessible picnic tables across their region.
Hanah Gutoskie, the town’s community coordinator said the tables will be put into parks from Wilno to Combermere.
“Anybody can use them but they do have that overhang, which will allow somebody you know in a wheelchair to be able to participate fully at the table, which is great” Gutoski said.
There will be 16 tables installed in 7 parks. They hope to have the tables in by spring.
According Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, The Madawaska Valley picnic table project will help fight social isolation by allowing more people to access parks.
Ontario is investing in a total of 15 community-based projects as part of the 2023-24 cycle of the Inclusive Community Grants Program.
