Ontario Provincial Police are reminding everyone ahead of the Labour Day weekend to exercise safety on provincial roads.

Doing so can save lives, OPP said.

As of mid-August, 227 people have died on OPP-patrolled roads.

Many of those can be attributed to speeding, inattentive driving, impaired driving and not wearing a seatbelt. Among the total are 21 pedestrians and six cyclists

OPP Commissioner Thomas Carrique says with roadways, sidewalks and crosswalks about to get busier, drivers need to think about the people they are sharing the road with.

“It is as important to them, as it is to you, to get home safely every day. Whether you are driver, passenger, pedestrian or cyclist, never take risks that jeopardize your safety or the safety of others.”
