Area food banks are looking to the public to help feed those less fortunate.
The Central Food Bank is hosting a donation drive at the Bancroft Foodland on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Organizers say it supports a wide area including food banks in Cardiff and Wilberforce and they are most in need of items including tuna, canned corn and vegetables, baked beans, soup and pancake syrup.
Tina Jackson is with the Central Food Network and she says many families are having to make heartbreaking decisions.
“Whether they’re paying their hydro or they are putting food on the table or they are paying for medication, it really is getting worse and the stories that we are hearing on the sacrifices that people have to make in order just to put food on the table are unreal.”
Jackson adds that the network is planning on holding more drives in the area in the future.
