The program will end Oct. 11 and flushing will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily.
This semiannual maintenance program is designed to remove sediment accumulation within the water mains in order to maintain good water quality.
Madawaska Valley Township says that the flushing may result in temporarily discoloured water and lower than normal water pressure.
Low pressure is due to hydrants being turned on and off and should only be intermittent.
OCWA recommends avoiding water use when crews are flushing in the area.
It is also recommended that users run cold water for a few minutes each morning to clear any discoloured water from plumbing, should anyone experience low pressure or discolouration.
Discoloured water and lower than normal pressure can occur at the site of flushing or several blocks away due to changes in flow and direction of water flow.
According to the township, “It is impossible to predict which locations or the extent of the customers which may be affected.”
