Opeongo Heritage Cup begins today in Barry’s Bay

The opening ceremony for the multicultural Opeongo Heritage Cup Hockey tournament takes place tonight at 6:50 p.m. at the Paul J. Yakabuski Community Centre in Barry’s Bay. 

Just ahead of the ceremony, Barry’s Bay Minor Hockey Future Stars Showcase game will take place at 5 p.m.

Following the ceremony the first puck drop will be at 7 p.m. as the Algonquin Thunderbirds face off against the German Black Eagles.

Throughout a full weekend the four teams, including the Kashubian Griffins and Irish Shamrocks, will face off to determine the champion.

Last year the Heritage Cup champions in the open division was the Black Eagles while the women’s division champions were Algonquin Thunderbirds.
