Ben Fraser from All Terrain Rescue said they were hired by the insurer to retrieve the Audi from where it had sunk near two small islands, about 350 meters from the Baptiste Lake Marina.
The recovery took place last Monday.
Fraser said they used a ‘little runabout motorboat’ with some modifications to get to the car and retrieve it.
“I use floating pontoons on my snowmobile when we do ice rescues and go out on sketchy ice .. so we used two of the pontoons from that and then two more that I had built for another purpose and [we] connected them together with some big timbers, kind of a get’er done kind of a thing…”

Fraser said it was a tough go at times.
“It was definitely a challenge, we had to cut a big long channel through the ice from the boat ramp…we started out wider at the at the entrance and gradually narrowed it down so that the ice chunks would float away.”
When we spoke with Fraser, he was getting footage of the Baptiste Lake High Falls dam to show the amount of water flowing through the lake and how that contributed to a challenging rescue.
“I did not anticipate the amount of flow out there in the lake right there. But there’s a couple of islands and I guess they cause a little bit of a pinch point…. the deep section of the of the lake is where we were working…. And that’s actually why we’re all down here at the falls filming right now.”

The footage will be added into the video of the Audi rescue that will be posted on All Terrain Rescue’s YouTube page.

“Basically, we recover machines, equipment, cars, snowmobiles, you know what, anything that somebody has gotten stuck in a bad place, we go and get it out, wherever it might happen to be.”
